1. Are you a multi-family office?
No, while we seek to provide the services of a family office through integration of professional services and technology, we are best as a source of specialized services and expertise beyond what a client’s family office is able to deliver.

2. Do you sell investment products?
No. We do not sell investment products, nor do we receive commissions for selling securities products. We do not receive commissions for financial products that we recommend. We are compensated by fees paid to us by our clients. This prevents potential conflicts of interest and ensures that you receive impartial advice.

3. Do you give investment advice?
Yes. We help our clients define their investment goals and advise them on how their assets should be allocated across different asset classes. We recommend specific investment managers for implementation of traditional and alternative investment strategies. We also manage portfolios of index vehicles, equities, bonds, funds, and cash on a discretionary basis and perform ongoing due diligence on our clients’ multiple investment managers.

4. Does DHS Financial Strategies provide advice about alternative investments, such as hedge funds and private equity funds?
Yes. We have a research and due diligence effort dedicated to alternative investments. We also have unique and early access to boutique investment offerings through our network.

5. Do you prepare tax returns?
Although we have CPAs available, we do not prepare income tax returns. We focus on tax planning and we coordinate with our clients’ CPAs to ensure that our clients’ tax strategies are integrated with the rest of their wealth planning.6. Does DHS Financial Strategies provide client references?
Yes, we can provide client references upon request. We can also provide professional references. Some professionals have worked on several engagements with us, so they know our work well.7. How does DHS Financial Strategies work with other advisors?
We strive to complement, not replace, our clients’ other advisors. Sometimes our clients ask us to help them select a new attorney, CPA, money manager, or insurance agent. We are glad to provide this type of assistance. However, most often our clients want us to work with their existing advisory team. Wealth planning cuts across the boundaries of accounting, tax planning, law, investments, and insurance. Sometimes the best way to deal with a complex issue is to gather together all of the advisors who deal with any aspect of the issue so that they can develop joint recommendations and coordinate their efforts. True teamwork is a group of people working towards solving a problem, each in their own distinctive way. In all cases, our objective is to help our clients get more value out of their relationships with their other advisors.8. What value does DHS Financial Strategies add to my situation if I already have a tax advisor, money manager, and attorney?
We are trained to deal with the complex interactions among wealth planning issues. For example, a decision to refinance personal or business debt might affect a client’s tax situation, estate plan, cash flow, investment strategy, and life and disability insurance. We are uniquely positioned to deal with these interactions because of our holistic approach and our position at the center of clients’ financial situations. One way to think about our approach is to ask yourself the following question: “When was the last time my corporate attorney, personal attorney, accountant, investment advisor, and insurance agent met as a team with me to talk about how they could all work together to help me meet my personal and business financial objectives?”9. What is your core area of expertise?
Our firm excels at bringing all the pieces together through a holistic approach and formulating a game plan to meet client needs. Corporate attorneys, personal attorneys, investment advisors, insurance agents, estate planners, financial planners, and accountants all bring a core area of expertise. Our core area of expertise is translating & integrating these multiple voices into a cohesive team with one voice, focused on your goals.

10. What would be DHS Financial Strategies approach if I joined as a new client?
Our objectives would be:

  • To design and implement comprehensive financial strategies that will address all of your financial objectives.
  • To help you strive for continuous improvement of your financial situation.
  • To provide you with timely identification of opportunities and to identify problems before they become acute.
  • To coordinate the activities of all of your other advisors.

We would begin by developing a detailed understanding of your personal objectives, and by doing a comprehensive analysis of your current financial situation. We identify potential issues and planning opportunities. Then we use our knowledge of your personal objectives to suggest solutions to problems and to help you to zero in on opportunities.
Many of the situations we work on are so complex that our initial analysis may produce a list of issues that will take several years to address. Our consultants are experts at helping our clients to prioritize and focus. We use project management tools to keep track of tasks and to coordinate our own work and work being done by our clients’ other advisors.
